About Course

Most of what a Muslim woman learns about her role, her marriage and her children reaches her in fragments. A lecture here, a thread there, a half-remembered answer from years ago.

Talim un-Nisa, the teaching of women, gathers it into one place and gives it a structure. This is the English edition of the course the Tayyibah Institut already teaches in German; the material here is in English. Three subjects, each treated in depth, in shāʾ Allāh: femininity, marriage, and the raising of children.

Feminism, or “stolen femininity”: the role of women in Islam

This part sets the role of women in Islam beside what modern feminism offers her, and examines a promise: that femininity is a weakness to be traded away in exchange for worth. Where did that idea come from, what has it delivered in the lives of women and their families, and what does Islam say about the role of a woman?

Islamic marriage: a multi-part series

Every Muslim woman who wishes to marry, or who is already married, should have this knowledge. Marriage is one of the few areas of life where not knowing costs two people at once. The series covers the Islamic marriage itself and the rights and duties each spouse carries towards the other, and then goes beyond the rulings:

No course can promise you a harmonious marriage, and this one does not. What it offers is understanding: of what is owed on both sides, and of the patterns that quietly wear a marriage down.

    • What the real differences between men and women are, and why they are not a design flaw
    • How men “think” and how women “feel”, and why the two so often talk past one another
    • Which traits are toxic to a marriage, and what makes them so damaging

Parenting: Raising children on Quranic principles

Modern parenting methods arrive with the authority of expertise behind them. This part shows how they make raising children harder, and where they can harm the child and the family as a whole.

Set against that are the principles of upbringing as the Quran presents them: what they ask of the parents, and the holistic benefit they carry for children and family together.
